What to Look For In Buying a Beach Chair

Posted on November 24, 2013

Everybody loves to spend time on the beach, relaxing and basking in the sun. The thought of buying beach chairs is one we pay much attention to. To find affordable beach chairs isn’t an issue but finding a chair that will last you for years is a challenge. In this article, we offer some tips on how you can buy the perfect chair and what separates a good chair form a bad one.

First of all, it is important to find the type you like. Most people choose to opt for a wooden beach chair because of the look and longevity. Others like to choose aluminum because they tend to weigh less. The aluminum chairs do rust with time so make sure you wash and spray them down at the end of the season and even use paint on deep scratches to prevent rust setting in.

Ideally, a wooden beach chair is the best. Most have marine grade canvas as their fabric and are extremely comfortable to lounge in. They also hold up longer and the fabric can be replaced if needed after years of service keeping the nicely weathered frame as the backbone of your chair.

A good beach chair should be portable. Chairs must be easy to unload and carry otherwise there is no point in buying a chair which you cannot take with your wherever you go. We have some chairs that have backpack style straps built-in that make them easier to carry but all can be put on a beach cart for easy transport, too.

Many beach chairs recline at least 4 positions which is a preferable option for most beach enthusiasts.  We have been asked about fixed position chairs as well and we were happy to provide options for customers who have asked.  They are specifically our Blue Ridge Chair, which is a smaller chair that is great for the beach, concert, soccer match, etc. And the other is our Blue Ridge Deck chair that can be used at the beach for folks that prefer a higher seat chair.

A comfortable beach chair is a great investment if you go to the beach a lot or own a summer beach home. We’ve owned many chairs and you definitely get what you pay for.  If you only go to the beach a couple times a year then an aluminum chair is probably your best bet. However, if you are an avid beach goer and are at the beach every weekend then a wooden beach chair will keep you happy and last years and years and be less of an investment in the long run.
